Nowadays, we live in a world where there seems to be a brand new diet added to the already lengthy list every single day. This can get pretty confusing – especially when two diets are incredibly similar. However, it’s fair to say that there is no other diet quite like the carnivore diet, and countless people have found this particular way of life to be hugely beneficial in terms of losing weight. Of course, that doesn’t mean that we all automatically know the rules of this diet and potential dangers to look out for. Thankfully, we’ve summed it all up for you below.
What is it?
As you can probably tell by the carnivore diet, it’s definitely not appropriate for those who choose not to eat meat or animal products. That’s because this diet consists solely of this stuff, with those adopting this diet only eating the likes of meat, fish, eggs, dairy, and other foods that come from the animals of the world. As part of this diet, it’s important that you don’t eat fruits, vegetables, or even foods such as grains or legumes. This diet as a whole stems back to our ancestors, when they would survive wholly on the food that they would catch themselves – which were animals. It’s believed that these ancient ancestors didn’t suffer with the diseases that the modern world has to struggle with today, and some people put that down to their carnivore diet.
What are the benefits?
Countless people have adopted the carnivore diet in the past, and some of them have been able to notice a serious amount of weight loss. One of the main reasons for this is because meat, fish, and animal products are full of protein, and protein essentially makes you feel fuller for longer. With this in mind, those on the carnivore diet note that they eat less calories, and therefore lose weight – when paired with exercise, of course. Alongside this, a carnivore diet has also been regarded as incredibly anti-inflammatory, which can seriously help those who have to deal with autoimmune diseases on a regular basis. As if that wasn’t enough, many people have found that the carnivore diet has helped their mental health issues, and sometimes even supposedly cured people of their depression.
What are the downsides?
One of the major downsides of the carnivore diet is that very little research has been done in regards to its benefits, and most of the supposed benefits have come from hearsay alone. Alongside this, there are many scientists and nutritionists out there who believe that a complete lack of fruits, vegetables, and other foods that are full of nutrients, will have a negative effect on the body. As if that wasn’t enough, meat is full of fat, cholesterol, and sodium, which most experts will say you have to eat in moderation.
When it comes to the carnivore diet, many people have found success on it. However, it’s important to do your research before committing to a new diet.
